She obtained her Bachelor of Computer Science diploma from the University of West Florida, and after graduating, she was employed by Kaplan University as an Education Advising Manager. Admittedly, Amanda was intimidated at first: “there have been so many acronyms and concepts that I didn’t know that others at school who had experience in IT already understood.” Instead of quitting, Amanda embraced the challenge, developed working rel ationships with classmates, and worked carefully together with her IT Career Lab teacher, Derek Atchinson. In addition to the technical information she attained, Amanda gained confidence from her friends, as some of them had been also profession changers. Amanda stated, “It was amazing. Talking with Derek and my classmates was very helpful, and the camaraderie was a morale increase!” By August, Amanda completed her coaching with IT Career Lab, incomes her Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT) and Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Certifications. Since efficiently finishing IT Career Lab, Amanda mentioned that she “has acquired extra job interviews within the final month, than she did the whole time since being laid off a 12 months ago combined.” She is presently finishing up a brief employment opportunity at The MIS Department, Inc. and is finding out for yet another IT certification, the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Certification .
